Why this gateway?

Airports, intercity roads, vehicle services, guides, supplies, and overnight options make the city a useful place to prepare before leaving for a multi-stage Safari Circuit.

Wildlife & landscape

The city's gateway role connects sharply different landscapes: Rift Valley lakes and grasslands to the west, central highlands to the north, and the drier Amboseli–Tsavo country to the south.

When to go

Departure timing matters throughout the year because city traffic, rain, and road conditions can change the first travel stage.

Getting there

This circuit leaves the Nairobi–Mombasa road at Athi River and continues through Kajiado and Namanga toward Amboseli's Meshanani Gate.

Typical visit

An arrival night and preparation stop before an early road departure.
