Mkomazi completes the ecological story begun in Tsavo West. Dry-country species, more than 450 recorded bird species, black-rhino and wild-dog conservation, distant mountains, and comparatively light visitation make the park feel spacious and purposeful rather than simply less famous.

This is a formally managed national park entered for planned activities, not an informal roadside stop. Distances continue well beyond Zange Gate, services are limited, and access to conservation projects or guided activities may require advance arrangements.

Confirm the intended sector and activity with TANAPA before leaving Same. Carry sufficient water and fuel, follow ranger instructions, and allow a large daylight margin for travel inside the park.

Getting there
From Same, follow the gravel approach about 6 km east to Zange Gate, the nearest public entrance. The mapped Journey stops at the gate; all park driving beyond it requires current TANAPA access and guidance.
