The waterfall is the intimate counterpoint to the broad, still water of Chinga Dam. A brief descent into dense highland vegetation reveals moving water, birdsong, and the unexpectedly wild edge of a place that first appears to be only a roadside reservoir.

What to expect

Expect a short informal walk rather than a developed attraction. The route leaves the dam area, crosses toward the stream, and descends on ground that may be damp, muddy, overgrown, or slippery. Signs, barriers, and formal facilities should not be assumed.

Ask at the dam or in Gichiche for someone who knows the current path. Wear shoes with grip, keep away from wet rock and strong water, respect nearby farms, and turn back if rain or rising flow changes the conditions.

Getting there

Reach Chinga Dam from Nyeri via Othaya and Gichiche, then continue on foot across the road from the dam access area. The map line is an orientation guide; use the locally indicated path on the day.

Best time: Go in daylight with local guidance. Avoid the descent during heavy rain or when water, mud, or visibility makes the approach unsafe.
