Place
Diani Beach
Coast
Diani, Kwale County, Kenya
A long sweep of white-sand coast south of Mombasa, where reef-sheltered Indian Ocean water meets the everyday life of Ukunda.
Why go
Why visit this place?
Diani adds the open coast to a Mombasa journey. The broad beach, warm water, palms, reef-influenced shallows, and changing tide create a very different experience from the historic streets of Mombasa Island.
When you arrive
What to expect
Diani is a long beachfront rather than one gated attraction. Different access roads reach different parts of the sand, and the atmosphere shifts between active sections with vendors and water activities and quieter stretches farther along the coast.
Local knowledge
Local tip
Ask locally which access road best fits the day's tide, sea conditions, and the kind of visit you want. Agree on prices before accepting equipment, transport, or a guided activity, and protect yourself from the midday sun.
