Why safari here?

Its immense scale, varied terrain, and overlap of eastern and southern African species make it a major wilderness destination in its own right.

Wildlife & landscape

The Great Ruaha and seasonal sand rivers cross baobab hills, rocky kopjes, plains, miombo, acacia woodland, and wetlands. Wildlife includes elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, kudu, sable, and roan.

When to go

June to October is dry and wildlife gathers around remaining water. The rains usually extend from November to May.

Gateway & getting there

The overland continuation reaches Msembe from Iringa. Direct air access from Dar es Salaam is also available at Msembe and Jongomero.

Typical visit

Several nights are appropriate because of the park's size, internal distances, and changing river and woodland habitats.
