Lolldaiga reveals a different side of the Mount Kenya country: high ridges, wooded valleys, open plains, and long views toward Mount Kenya, the Aberdares, and northern Kenya. Game drives, birdwatching, ranger-led walks, and arranged cave visits connect the wildlife landscape with evidence of much older human use.

What to expect

Visits are deliberately controlled and must be arranged before arrival. Depending on the booking, a day may center on a self-drive or guided game drive, a picnic, birdwatching, or an accompanied walk. Roads can be rough or boggy, and the hills are steep and high enough to make walking more demanding than expected.

Do not arrive without a confirmed booking. Ask which gate to use, whether your vehicle is suitable, and whether a guide or armed ranger has been arranged. Carry water and neutral-colored clothing; walking without an armed ranger is not allowed.

Getting there

The practical road journey begins in Nanyuki and reaches the conservancy's pre-booked main-gate approach north of town. Obtain current directions directly from Lolldaiga when booking, because gate instructions and internal road conditions matter.

Best time: A clear, dry day is best for long views and easier internal driving. Rain can make tracks boggy, so confirm conditions and vehicle requirements before departure.
