Getting there
Road approaches leave the Great North Road south of Mpika and continue through the Lavushi Manda area. Two local airstrips support arranged flights, with final boat transfers when the floodplain is inundated.
Best time: May to July combines cooler weather, water-dependent wildlife, shoebills, and large black-lechwe herds. August to December is drier and better for road exploration, though shoebills become harder to find as water recedes.
