Marsabit National Park turns the northern road Journey into a dramatic ecological transition. Dense highland forest and crater lakes support birds and mammals associated with both mountain and dry-country habitats. Expect a managed national-park visit on forest and crater roads, with mist, wildlife, viewpoints, and road conditions that can differ sharply from the dry A2 below. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Remain in the vehicle except in designated areas and leave enough time to exit before the evening gate closure.

The park has several gates. This local Journey maps the short approach from central Marsabit to Abdul Gate, which leads toward park headquarters. Entry fees apply; current KWS guidance lists daytime gate hours of 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM unless the visitor is staying overnight.

Best time: The park is accessible throughout the year, but rain and mist can make forest roads slower or hazardous. Begin early, confirm the day's conditions at the gate, and keep a generous margin before the 6:00 PM closure.
